Before becoming famous on the wrist of James Bond in 1995's GoldenEye, the Seamaster collection had already begun its shift towards modern design in the early 1990s. The reference 396.1062 is one of the so-called pre-Bond models, recognizable by its elegant sports case and sleek dial.
This Seamaster incorporates the codes that would soon make the line a success: a 36 mm steel case, a discreet smooth bezel and a sober black dial offering excellent readability. It is powered by the Omega caliber 1438, a precise and reliable quartz movement, identifiable here by the movement number 255XXX. The serial number indicates production in 1993.
With its balanced proportions, this watch is a sporty yet elegant piece. It stands as an important milestone in the history of the Seamaster, marking the transition to the iconic generation of the Bond years.
This watch has a slight dent on the bezel at 9 o'clock. It comes with its original box, overbox, and card holder, but the red velvet used by Omega at the time has aged poorly, and the box and card holder show characteristic discoloration. Papers are not present.
