In the 1970s, the Swiss watch industry was facing the rise of quartz watches, particularly those produced in Japan. Omega responded to this challenge by developing the "Megaquartz" series, whose caliber 1310 was one of the brand's first quartz movements. The reference 196.0030 represents an attempt to combine classic design with modern technology.

A rare example of the golden age of Swiss quartz, this Omega Genève Megaquartz 32 kHz represents Omega's response to the technological revolution of the 1970s. With its 39 mm 14K (20 micron) yellow gold-plated case, featuring the crisp, angular lines typical of the decade, this watch asserts a decidedly retro-futuristic character. This 1972 example is in near-perfect condition.

Inside, we find the caliber 1310, a high-precision quartz movement based on a 32,768 Hz oscillator. A frequency that has since become the world standard.
